Golden Globe Award winner Renée Zellweger opens up on the impact of playing Judy Garland
Renee Zellweger has been the front runner for Best Actress at every award show this season for her portrayal of Judy Garland in Judy. She already won Best Actress at Golden Globes 2020 followed by SAG Awards 2020. Now, the fans are rooting for her to bag the Academy Award too, this year.
Speaking about her role, when asked whether it was hard to put away at night when she was done shooting, she said, "Oh I never want to put her away. I fell in love with her and I am there to stay."
Her portrayal of Judy Garland has been critically acclaimed. Was it intimidating for her to play the role? "I tried not to think about that part of it. It didn't really feel like a role, it felt like an exploration, sort of like an immersion into this legacy of gorgeous work that so many of us feel affection for and a connection to. So I just got on with the curiosity and the play of it which was so special," Renee said.
Directed by Rupert Goold, Judy is loosely based on Peter Quilter’s play End of the Rainbow. The story revolves around Judy Garland’s sold-out run at a London nightclub months before she dies in June 1969 due to accidental drug overdose.
